Definition of Pregnancy-  also known as gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman. Pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, counting from the first day of your last normal menstrual period. The weeks are divided into three stages, parts/trimester (TREYE-mess-turs). First trimester

The first trimester is very crucial since many important changes take place in the first three months. In the little phase, you may not even realize that you are pregnant. But it’s important that you take maximum care during this period.

Month 1 :-

Pregnancy changes in your body:  you may not notice any physical change, but from the time your period is overdue the symptoms of pregnancy like nausea, fainting or dizziness, tiredness and a craving for certain foods may occur  

Your baby: At this point, your baby is called embryo and is looking for a spot to implant in the uterus. Early formation of the central nervous system, backbone and spinal column has begun. The gastrointestinal system has also begin to develop along with the kidney, liver and intestines. the heart has begun to form.

Month 2 : –

Pregnancy changes in your body: Hormonal changes in your body give your skin a glow. You must have a complete medical checkup with your doctor and every month from now.

Your baby: At the beginning of the second month the embryo will be 10 mm long and major organs have all begun to from. The embryo has developed its own blood type, unique from the Mother’s. Hair follicles and nipples from, knee and elbow are visible. Facial features are also observable. Their nature muscle system is developed. The embryo is able to move By the end of the 2nd month the embryo will be 22 mm long.

Month 3 : –

Pregnancy changes in your body: nausea may begin to fade by now and should be gone by the end of 3rd month. Your pregnancy will soon be obvious as the uterus swells. You may not feel as tired or sleepy as in the first week.  

Your baby: your baby is now called a fetus and its heart is almost completely developed and the heart rate can be heard on a Doppler machine at the doctor’s office. Most major organs and tissues have developed and red blood cells are now produced in the liver. The face is well-formed and the eyes are almost fully developed arms, hands fingers, legs, feet, and toes are fully formed. Nails and earlobes start to form and tooth buds develop in the gums.  

Things to remember:  morning sickness, nausea & vomiting are common features during this period so there is nothing to panic. Despite nausea & vomiting your diet should not be neglected folic acid is important, your doctor will recommend folic acid tablets. Try to incorporate leafy vegetables and salads in your diet.
